Die große Veränderung – The Big Change

Ein halbes Jahr ist jetzt bereits seit meinem letzten Post vergangen und ich war so dreist und habe nicht einmal Bescheid gegeben, warum es denn so still geworden ist.

Nun ja, was soll ich sagen? Ab Oktober werden sich zwei kleine Mädels zu uns gesellen (juchuu!). Wir freuen uns total, sind gespannt wie zwei Flitzebögen und können es teilweise immer noch nicht fassen. Da es so aussieht als wenn die beiden eineiig sind, mussten wir seit März zu massig verschiedenen Vorsorgeuntersuchungen und die Vorbereitungen für die Ankunft der beiden sind schon lange im Gange.

Da ich davon ausgehe, dass mein zeitliches Budget nicht gerade besser wird wenn die beiden erst einmal da sind, denke ich auch leider nicht, dass sich meine Blogsituation in naher Zukunft verbessern wird. Es kann jedoch sein, dass ich hier und da ein fertiges Projekt vorstelle, bzw. eine kleine Anleitung einstellen werde (z. B. arbeite ich gerade an einer Anleitung für eine Babyhose).

Natürlich hoffe ich, dass ich irgendwann wieder mehr Zeit zum Bloggen finden werde und dass ihr bis dahin Geduld mit mir habt. Falls ihr gerne mitverfolgen möchtet was ich sonst zur Zeit stricke, seid ihr natürlich herzlich willkommen bei Instagram vorbeizuschauen. Instagram erfordert nicht das gleiche Maß an Zeit und Aufwand, weswegen es mir bisher möglich war, dort Bilder hochzuladen.

So, jetzt wisst ihr zumindest warum es hier in den letzten Monaten so still geworden ist. 🙂

Ich hoffe jedenfalls, dass ihr einen tollen Sommer hattet und genießt jetzt den Anfang der Strick-Hochsaison!

Half a year has already gone by since my last post and I do apologise for not even letting you know what’s going on.

Well, what can I say? If everything goes as planned we will have two baby girls in October (so soon!). We’re very excited and cannot wait to meet the two little ones. As it looks like they are identical twins, the last half a year has been filled with lots and lots of check-ups as well as preparations for their arrival.

As I don’t expect my time budget to improve once they have arrived, I fear it might continue to be rather quiet on the blog during the coming months. I might, however, post finished knitting projects or self-designed patterns (I’m currently working on a pair of woollen baby pants).

I hope that I will find more time to blog again at one point and also hope you will be patient with me until then. If you’d still like to follow along with what I’m currently knitting, you’re of course welcome to hop over to Instagram and check out what I’m posting there. Instagram does not require the same amount of time and effort, which is why I’ve been able to continue posting pictures there.

Alright, now you know at least why it has gotten so quiet around here.

Celebrations – Freudenfest

In October I decided to challenge myself and finally finish my granny-square blanket during my week of holiday in the beginning of November. At the end of my holiday I had to admit that I was once again defeated. But guess what: I’M DONE!

3,5 years. That’s apparently the time frame I need for crocheting a blanket. It was a tough project at times and I have often thought about just dropping the project altogether and giving it to some charity.

But I must admit that I am glad I pulled through. This blanket will keep us warm in winter, will be great for picnics in summer and if you’ve been working hard on something you enjoy the final product all the more.

What I enjoyed most:

• The design process: Choosing the colours, deciding on what the total size of the blanket should be, deciding what the squares should look like and how big they should be. Then, when all the individual squares were ready it was fun to spread them out on the floor to arrange them so the colours were distributed somewhat evenly.
• Watching the blanket grow and being able to see why I started on this mega project in the first place.

Lessons learned:

• Don’t ever start on a grown-up blanket again, except for if you for whatever reason have tons of time on your hands for a couple of months at a time (e.g. when you retire).

  • Alpha by Schoeller + Stahl, 70% acrylic, 30% virgin wool
  • 68 skeins à 50 g (a little more than 3 kg (6.5 lb) and a total length of approx. 4 km (2.5 miles))

• Hours used: I have no clue – lots and lots. 🙂

Im Oktober habe ich mich selbst dazu herausgefordert, endlich meine Granny-Square Decke während meines Urlaubs Anfang November fertigzustellen. Am Ende des Urlaubs musste ich mich dann wieder einmal geschlagen geben. Aber jetzt bin ich fertig!

3,5 Jahre. So lange brauche ich anscheinend, um eine Granny-Square Decke fertigzustellen. Ab und zu war es wirklich anstrengend und ich habe mehr als einmal in Erwägung gezogen, einfach aufzuhören und das komplette Projekt an einen guten Zweck zu spenden.

Letztendlich bin ich aber doch überglücklich, dass ich durchgehalten und bis zum Ende weitergehäkelt habe. Diese Decke wird uns im Winter schön warm halten, im Sommer als Picknickdecke dienen und wenn man so lange an etwas gearbeitet hat, weiß man es letzten Endes doch umso mehr zu schätzen.

 

Was ich am meisten an diesem Projekt genossen habe:

• Den Designprozess: Die Farben aussuchen, sich überlegen wie groß die Decke und die einzelnen Vierecke sein sollen, welches Muster ich für die Vierecken verwenden möchte. Als dann alle Vierecke fertig waren hat es super Spaß gemacht, sie alle auf dem Boden auszubreiten und zu arrangieren, so dass die Farben einigermaßen regelmäßig verteilt waren.
• Zu sehen wie die Decke langsam wächst und damit daran erinnert zu werden, warum man sich überhaupt dazu entschlossen hat, mit diesem Gigaprojekt anzufangen.

Gewonnene Erkenntnisse:

• Häkel nie wieder eine Decke in Erwachsenengröße, außer du hast aus irgendwelchen Gründen massig Zeit, idealerweise mehrere Monate am Stück (z.B. wenn du in Rente gehst).

  • Alpha von Schoeller + Stahl, 70% Polyakryl, 30% Schurwolle
• • 68 Wollknäuel à 50 g (ein bisschen mehr als 3 kg  und eine Gesamtlänge von ca. 4 km)

• Enddatum: November 2014
• Verhäkelte Stunden: Ich hab absolut keine Ahnung, außer dass es massig waren. 🙂
